What do billionaires Warren Buffet and Sam Zell have in common? Both owe part of their fortune to the trailer industry in the United States. Buffet owns Clayton Homes, the US’s biggest mobile home manufacturer, and 21st Mortgage Corporation and Vanderbilt Mortgage and Finance Company, the two largest mobile home lenders. Zell owns Equity LifeStyle Properties (ELS), the largest mobile park owner in the US with over 140,000 trailer parks. [Read more…]
Is there ever a day when we’re not busy? Going to work and dealing with domesticity in all its forms: Paying household bills, finding the money for car repairs and school fees, as well as other unexpected expenses which just seem to arise out of the blue – the list is endless, and the pace unrelenting. However, playing in your favourite online casino means there’s always the possibility you could win a jackpot which would allow you to exchange all that for the chance to make your dreams come true and travel around the world. Okay, so foodie culture might not have taken over in every aspect of life but it is certainly much more widely appreciated than it used to be. What’s more, its influence can be felt in many walks of life nowadays. In fact, foodie culture has come a long way. The term was first coined back in the 1980s and was sometimes also called the foodie movement and even the foodie revolution. Much of it was about pushing back against commoditised food, especially fast food, and placing a greater emphasis on the quality and look of ingredients. Foodie culture also embraced locally sourced food and sustainability but its central focus was always on dining as a visual as well as an oral experience. [Read more…]
The year-on-year growth in e-commerce compared with traditional retailers who use bricks and mortar stores has been widely reported in recent times. According to several media outlets, the National Retail Federation predicted that growth rates in e-commerce in 2017 would get as high as 12 per cent. That is an astonishing statistic but it reflects just how popular shopping on the internet has become. [Read more…]
If you’re looking to get from A to B and do so with a minimum of dying along the way, you’ll want to do so via air. Travelling by plane is still the fastest, safest way option, so much so that there really is no competition. Vehicle travel is just silly if you have the option to instead make the journey up in the clouds, with the traffic, pollution and suicidal other drivers far below.
On the other hand, did you know that the interior of an aeroplane is a perfect environment for spreading germs around? Given that a plane interior is sealed and that passengers are packed in like sardines (unless of course you are in Business Class), the potential of germs doing a bit of crowd surfing is through the roof. I‘ve often lamented about how online poker loses something, due to the fact that you can’t physically see your opponents. Since poker is largely about being bluffed, and attempting to bluff opponents, there is a bit of a disconnect. After all, not having to back your bluff up with a poker face somewhat defeats a large portion of the game. I concluded that online multiplayer poker does still have value, since bluffing can also be about the actions taken in the game. [Read more…]
If you want to know what’s happening with the weather, you ask a weatherman. If you want to know what the latest, excessively expensive trends are, you ask a Kardashian.
In March, Khloé Kardashian held her baby shower, and, as expected, the celebration was as lavish an affair as you would expect, with unreasonable amounts of money spent on the pink-filled baby paradise. [Read more…]
What makes for a great Instagram picture? If you’re a dedicated hipster, it could be the perfect cup of coffee next to your leather-bound journal, with a fountain pen perfectly placed nearby. If you’re a foodie, it might be a perfectly constructed plate of food. Architecture lovers will appreciate the way light and shadow highlight a vaulted ceiling or another feature. [Read more…]
Thankfully priced beyond the reach of many motorists, the world’s first flying car is for sale – but do not expect to see any on the roads or in the skies until next year. The debut of the rather silly-looking Liberty Pioneer and Sport editions by Dutch company PAL-V took place at Switzerland’s internationally renowned Geneva Motor Show in March. [Read more…]
The concept of cryptocurrency mining is one which many tech-savvy users have been drawn to, simply because it can exchange raw processing power for financial reward. Not too long ago, Bitcoin mining was all the rage, with hordes of techies dedicating entire PC’s to the mining process in exchange for Bitcoin. Today, mining is more prolific in the smaller cryptocurrencies like Monero or Ethereum. Miners have always outsourced their work, but some bright spark has come up with a novel way to enhance the process. [Read more…]
